Handmade Photography Artist Books
I have recently started learning how to use my Photographs as the source materials for handmade Artists books. I have always been a great believer in the fact that an image is never 'finished' until you can touch it, feel it, handle it in some way. There are so many different ways to present an image with each choice taking that image, or series of images, in a completely different direction, the possibilities are endless. The actual process of bookmaking is incredibly satisfying too, being 'hands-on' every step of the way and most definitely learning from each and every mistake, is very rewarding. Having something to pick up and hold at the end of it is all the incentive you need to get on and explore further. I have also realised that measuring is incredibly satisfying, it's almost a form of meditation but with something to show for it at the end!

Electric Arc of Saturation
This is a Flag Book based upon a project which I have written about here. I love this series of images, they are so bright and colourful that I wanted a fun way to present them. A Flag Book presents that opportunity as the full series of images can be viewed at the same time but as you move around the book the relationship between them changes so the panel itself constantly changes.
This book stands 30cm tall and is 12cm wide. The cover is made using gorgeous Japanese Gold Unryu (Cloud Dragon) paper which has strands of fibre (traditionally kozo) adding extra contrast and texture. The images are printed using Digital Archival Matt Art Paper.
Cost: £35 - Open Edition. All copies are embossed and signed. Each book is made at the time of ordering.
Moons Beyond the Edge of Possibility
This series of images is based upon a project which I have written about here. I have chosen to create a Concertina book but to try and introduce different elements into that book to give it additional dimensions and longevity.
I have also chosen to present the book in its own handmade little 16cm square box.
The cover of the box and the book covers themselves are decorated using a the gorgeous Japanese Silver Unryu (Cloud Dragon) paper which has strands of fibre (traditionally kozo) adding contrast and texture.
The images themselves form part of the structure of the book as well as the content. My approach has been to print very feint copies of my selected images onto the background paper in a way that doesn't overwhelm thereby making the book personal to this project alone. All images are printed using Digital Archival Matt Art Paper.
To make the book dynamic, easy to change and update, and to give it longevity I have created windows in each of the panels behind which individual images of the prints are slotted. This allows the little prints to be rotated or swapped around infinitely.
